What is Hatha Alignment Yoga?

Hatha Alignment Yoga™ is a physical (Hatha) practice that incorporates Iyengar Yoga Alignment Principles and breath work, with a big dose of spirituality to align body, breath, mind and spirit. Hatha Alignment Yoga invigorates the body, focuses the mind, and expands the spirit.

About Hatha Alignment Yoga Instructor Certification Program:

Do you want to empower your life, and the lives of others through Hatha yoga? Have you experienced transformation in Hatha Yoga and would like to bring that experience to others? Join an amazing group of aspiring yoga teachers and students who are ready to move deeper into themselves and their own power. In Hatha Alignment Yoga Instructor Certification Program we will tap into our internal power, connect with our spirit, and learn to become a dynamic and intuitive yoga teacher.

Although we may have a gifted personal practice, guiding a room full of students through a powerful yoga practice with confidence is quite different than practicing yourselves. Mastering the ability to communicate and connect with our students is a crucial part of being an effective teacher.

The goal of
Hatha Alignment Yoga Instructor Certification Program is to teach us how to become a dynamic teacher, while at the same time, giving us an opportunity to explore and discover the power within ourselves, both as a teacher and as an individual. Our practical training program focuses on how to TEACH yoga, not just the poses.

Our service as teachers is to improve the quality of peoples lives and leave our students in a better place, both mentally and physically. To achieve this requires a deep understanding of how the body works beyond the superficial level. From a modern physiology and functional anatomy perspective,
Hatha Alignment Yoga Instructor Certification Program provides cutting edge techniques such as anatomy study, Iyengar Yoga Principles, video review, posture specific workshops, and more, for a comprehensive experience. Having a strong understanding of the way the body functions allows teachers to better understand why postures work the way they do and why the series follows a particular sequence. This allows our teachers to effectively give firm and safe hands-on physical adjustments when required.

What if I don't want to teach yoga? Can I still take Yoga Teacher Training? Yes!! We have 2 Tracks of Study Available.
  • Track 1 Yoga Immersion - If teaching yoga isn't your path you can still enjoy and benefit greatly from immersing fully in yoga practice (asana and alignment), yoga philosophy, meditation, energy medicine, and group support and discussion.
    • In Track 1 Yoga Immersion, students are NOT required to take Anatomy Tests or to Practice Teach.  This allows students to fully immerse into the yoga lifestyle without the pressure of tests and public speaking.
    • Track 1 students will receive n a Certificate of Attendance rather than a Certificate of Graduation
  • Track 2 Yoga Teacher Training - along with the benefits of Track 1 Yoga Immersion, Track 2 students receive a Certificate of Graduation which is recognized by Yoga Alliance© at the 200 and/or 500 hour level
What if I choose Track 1 Yoga Immersion and decide later that I want to teach yoga? First of all, we will be OVERJOYED you want to teach yoga!! If you are in Track 1 Yoga Immersion or received a Certificate of Attendance for Track 1 Yoga Immersion and you would like to teach yoga or register with Yoga Alliance® as long as all contact hours are fulfilled then all that is required is satisfactorily passing the required Anatomy Tests and demonstrating teaching proficiency by teaching a Yoga class for the primary instructor.

Prerequisites for Hatha Alignment Yoga Instructor Certification Program:
    1. The primary prerequisite is interest in learning the Hatha Alignment Yoga approach to teaching Hatha Yoga.
    2. Students do not need to be experts in any aspect of Yoga, but they do need to have a well-established Hatha Yoga practice that has been consistent for at least six months. **
    3. Students should have a love of Yoga and a strong desire to pass that love of Yoga on to others.
    4. Students should be in good physical and mental health (minor injuries/illness may be accommodated).
    5. For the 615 Hour Hatha Alignment Y® Teacher Training registration with Yoga Alliance® 200 Hour is required.
    6. At least 6 months Yoga teaching experience for the 615 Hour Hatha Alignment Yoga® Teacher Training.
**In order to prepare for the Hatha Alignment Yoga Instructor Certification Program, students need to have had a daily personal yoga practice for an extended period of time. We recommend at least an hour of Hatha Yoga every day for six months before the start of the training. During the training, we will be practicing yoga for approximately three hours each day. This can be physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding. Physical fitness acquired through other disciplines does not necessarily provide sufficient preparation. We ask that students have a strong personal Hatha Yoga practice to ensure they will be prepared for the high level of activity and the heightened level of energy produced in the body by this intense daily practice of asana and pranayama.

History of Hatha Alignment Yoga Instructor Certification Program:

Videos featuring Patricia Walden and Rodney Yee were my introduction to yoga. I loved the precise alignment and attention to detail the videos emphasized but since I was living in the New Mexico desert at that time and no Iyengar instructors were available I began practicing Power Yoga. I enjoyed the strength building and sweating of Power Yoga but I still yearned for alignment training; I extensively studied Power Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, and Hot Yoga and when my husband and I moved to Florida in 2000, I completed a 1,000-hour, Alignment Yoga teacher training. Through my love of Power Yoga and Alignment Yoga, I created, developed, and have held the trademark on Power Alignment Yoga™ since 2004. Through the encouragement of students, mentors, friends and family, I created the Power Alignment Yoga™ Teacher Training program in 2007. Power Alignment Yoga™ Teacher Training Program (RYS®) is registered with Yoga Alliance® at the 200 hour level.
In 2009, I created and developed Hatha Alignment Yoga Instructor Certification Program.
